It’s only fair, guys and gals! According to Worcester City Manager Mike O’Brien all our other municipal employees – like clerks who make a fraction of the money our police make – are paying 20 percent of their health insurance premiums. Why can’t you do the same thing? Why do you have to be so selfish and pigheaded? Don’t you realize you are blessed? In a brutal economy you pretty much have a job for life (some would say sincure). Many workers in the private sector pay much more than 25%. My firend’s husband has to pay 50% of his h.i. premium – and he works for a good, estasblished company!
This is what pisses me off! We have cops who milk the detail system and bring down as much as $150,000 a year. We have school principals making over $100,000 a year! Many of our teachers make a great living and have great vacations (two+ months in summer and one week in winter, spring and Christmas time). God knows most regular folks would kill for teachers’ hours – and I don’t believe the crap about hours spent at home correcting students’ papers. Most teachers have homework assignments down to an art – multiple choice and free period each school day for prep and test-essay, etc correction.
Why do people who have lived so well for so long insist on holding out for a crumby 5%? What is the big deal? EVERONE in the private sector pays AT LEAST 25% of their premiums. And many – like my friend’s husband – pay much more.
It’s such a shame. Here we are: in the midst of a jobless recovery, with our mumicipal and school budgets in the red (millions of dollars of projected deficit). and Worcester’s public school teachers and policemen and women can’t do the right thing for their city and fellow Worcesterites.
Hogs at the trough.
