Wonderpoop on Kate Toomey, District 15 state rep. candidate

Again, Wonderpoop libels/loathes everyone in Worcester! From our city leaders, to our schools, our kids, our parents, our businesses, our downtown, our media – everyone!

He needs to move far, far away …

Here he is (a few years back) on City Councilor at Large Kate Toomey, who has just announced she’s running for the District 15 state representative seat.

Blogging Fool Award – Councilor Kate Toomey

By Wonderpoop

A City Councilor who knows technology rules. Still want to stand by that statement Councilor Kate?

After weeks of searching, WWW’s editorial board finally found the perfect candidate for Wusta’s Blogging Fool Award. Not that there ain’t enough blogging fools in Wusta mind you. So garnering the unanimous vote of the editorial board, Worcester City Councilor Kate Toomey the indefatigable defender of the status quo.

This week’s inept handling of a citizen’s banal inquiry [Wonderpoop’s, perhaps?] – a meatball pitch if ever there was one – turned into a comedy of errors.

As many of you know if you’ve ever tried interacting with a councilor, the process is rather frustrating – no response to emails or telephone calls. No response to anything. If you’re lucky, the response is ambiguous. But ask yourself, why contact a City Councilor to get your neighborhood stop sign fixed or errant trash removed? What is the job of City Councilor? It’s what they say it is. So Councilor Kate finally accomplished something – she publicly fucked up. All on her own.

There’s not a whole lot to say about Toomey. Except that she pioneered the use of Facebook and Twitter as a communication tool to parry with with the electorate. Perhaps more noteworthy, in 6 years on the city council she’s hasn’t profiled herself on any single issue – always the lackey. When history looks back on her time, her legacy will read: Indistinguishable from the proverbial bump on a log.

Admittedly Toomey’s use of Facebook and Twitter to communicate with the electorate is democratic. Perhaps even laudable. Her droids – all three of em – call her a leader in the use of gizmos to communicate with the public – a quantum leap in open government! Ever read the posts? More like a quantum heap of pabulum.

And how about that Toomey website? Dead since March 2010. With so much happening in city politics she can’t put her thoughts into complex sentences? By golly she’s a teacher. Or maybe she’s smarter than we think. Knowing how dim-witted the electorate is, 140 characters is more than sufficient to get her message out. Thinking back, Councilor Rick Rushton made a couple lame attempts at connecting with the electorate on his personal website. The content though intelligible – using more than 140 characters and complex sentences – is unadulterated BS.

So, as the winner of the Blogging Fool Award, we heartily commend Worcester City Councilor Kate ”Green Eyes” Toomey for being a true detriment to the principles of democratic government.

… I say, what’s so privileged about asking a Councilor to get a sidewalk fixed? Folks want to know if they follow through. What they’re thinking. That’s not a whole lot to expect from them?

If Toomey’s recent interaction is indicative of the quality of response from one Councilor, imagine what the other 10 are like?

The Gong Show! (aka: last night’s Worcester City Council meeting!)

By Rosalie Tirella

Last night I sat before a little TV set mesmerized – absolutely mesmerized! – by all the whackiness that was flying around the august City Council chambers. You should have been their, folks! OR: You should have at least watched last night’s Worcester City Council meeting on your TV set! You could have sliced the rancor and the nuttiness with a meat cleaver! It was “Reno 911” Worcester style! What a gas, gas, gas!!!!

Here we go: Nutty Scene #1: Sam Rosario. Rosario, a duplicitous blowhard whom everyone in Worcester thinks is a duplicitous blowhard, is representing the liveries in their quest to become taxis. Sammy is a guy who once told political opponent Joe Cassella to step out of a three-way city council primary race because he (Cassella) had no chance of winning – it was really a race between him (Rosario) and the incumbent (dope Joff Smith). That was before Cassella trounced him and then went on to run against Smith in November and do fairly well – and seemingly (thank God!) put an end to Rosario’s political aspirations. Well, last night Sammy went bonkers. Continue reading The Gong Show! (aka: last night’s Worcester City Council meeting!)

Worcester city councilors Kate Toomey, Konstantina Lukes and the fight for transparency in city government

By Rosalie Tirella

Watching the Worcester City Council meeting Tuesday nights is like watching the battle of the mini-me’s. (Mostly) third-rate characters, with not a whole lot to contribute, jostling for #1 spot – mayor of Worcester. (not such a big deal, in most folks’ opinion)

So Kate Toomey ran for mayor last election cycle – and lost – big time. She came behind Konnie Lukes, former mayor of Worcester and, of course, Joe O’Brien, current mayor of Wormtown. Both these candidates – at least in voters’ eyes – seemed more mayoral than Toomey. Toomey, while getting lots of votes for City Council, doesn’t seem like she’s ever gonna be endorsed as mayor by Worcesterites. They just don’t see her as mayor.

That is her problem to fix. Continue reading Worcester city councilors Kate Toomey, Konstantina Lukes and the fight for transparency in city government

Telegram and Gazette ordains their “chosen” political candidates – doesn’t educate voters

By Rosalie Tirella

How annoying! I opened up the Telegram & Gazette today at a local coffee shop (I’d never actually put down any money to buy the T & G – and I coerced my relatives into ending their subscriptions – “You can read their crap on line for free!”), I was stunned to see a letter to the editor about ICT that was given just an awful headline. It was as if the editor/copy editor who slugged it had his/her own agenda – to trash us.

Then I read other Telegram and Gazette stories and thought: You know what? This awful rag doesn’t even need to be read – just scanned. Here it is, political season and you know: the T & G’s reporters, columnists, editors and copy editors will make Mayor Konnie Lukes look bad and her main opponent, candidate Joe O’Brien, look good. The T & G has never given Lukes the play that L.G. Tim Murray got when he was mayor of Worcester. And Murray – the little fart – Continue reading Telegram and Gazette ordains their “chosen” political candidates – doesn’t educate voters

Kate Toomey as mayor of Worcester?

By Rosalie Tirella

Kate Toomey, mayor of Worcester. How disorienting a freakin’ sentence is that?!

Mayor Toomey. Mayor Toomey? I just don’t get it! What do other people see in her that I am obviously blind to?

Toomey’s a woman with zero personality, zero charisma, zero charm. But forget the personality for a moment. As a Worcester city councilor (this is her second term), she never really adds anything of substance to Worcester city council meetings – except her approval of any plan hatched by the Rushton/Murray/Petty/old boys’ team. I watch the city council meetings ever week (from the comfort of a living room, away from the T & G/Blow Mag hacks who just love to give Rushton and Petty and their pals all the best play and make it a habit of dumping on Mayor Konnie Lukes, even Gary Rosen – outsiders, both), and Toomey never ever has came up with a cool plan or vision for anything! She has never had a passion about any issue. She has never advocated for anybody/anything on the council floor with vigor. She has never stood her ground fighting for anything. Toomey seems quiet, even a little withdrawn. Continue reading Kate Toomey as mayor of Worcester?

How dumb can they get?

By Rosalie Tirella

Why is it that we have a plethora of yahoos on the Worcester City Council? First there is City Councilor at Large Frederick “Ric” Rushton, whose trials and tribulations I chronicle in “Dope-o-rama” – ’cause he’s so dopey. Whether Rushton’s talking about the “vortex” in his brain or browbeating his council mates with a half-baked version of some historical event, Rushton never seems to get anything right.

Then there’s City Councilor Joff Smith, who, when recently complaining about the Asian Long-Horned Beetle in sentences cobbled together with thumb tacks and dangling participles galore, took his moron-ness to an even higher level: During a recent city council meeting Smith said that some of his conversations with officials reminded him of “episodes of Scooby Doo.” Scooby Doo?!

For the uninitiated, Scooby Doo was a 1960s Saturday morning cartoon – the star of which was a goofy Great Dane named Scooby Doo. Scooby had all these silly adventures with four 20-something kids (they’re Joff’s age) – one of whom always yelled: “Scooby Doo, where are YOU?!” Continue reading How dumb can they get?
