Creeped out by Lew Evangelidis

By Rosalie Tirella

This is why people hate politicians – this is why voters have a “Throw the bums out!” mentality.

Case in point: my meeting yesterday with Holden’s own “Lew” Evangelidis. (or maybe in Lew’s case, it should be: “Please God, don’t let this bum in!”

State Rep. “Lew” Evangelidis is running for Worcester County sheriff, and in my almost 10 years of publishing InCity Times and dealing with politicians of all political stripes and leanings, I have never ever met a pol who was more amped up, revved up, possibly coked up! I have never been more turned off by a politician. This guy is every pol stereotype come spookily to life: fast, fast, smooth talker; making no effort to be personable, get to know you (me). AND THEN THE KICKER: Practically right off the bat Lew says to me: If I – InCity Times – endorse him for sheriff, then he will take out an ad with me!

He said something like: And on my ad I can say endorsed by InCity Times!

I wanted to spit on him. No politican has ever treated me with such disrespect. InCity Times may be poor, we may be downtrodden but we are not stupid or bribe-able. Memo to Lew Evangelidis: INCITY TIMES CANNOT BE BOUGHT! Continue reading Creeped out by Lew Evangelidis

Tom Foley for Sheriff!

From: Ben and Betty Tedesco, Holden

We decided to vote for Tom Foley because of the outstanding qualifications he has. I know people are upset over the pension he so deserves. What you don’t know is: He will TAKE NO PENSION FROM THE JAIL! He wil not take benefits FROM THE JAIL! HE WILL TAKE A $30,000 PAY CUT from the sheriff’s salary.

Tom Foley will save the taxpayers $50,000 a year compared to the other sheriff candidates. He is not using this posititon as a stepping stone to furthur his political career. We know now that what we have read about Tom is how qualified and professional he is.

We want to let the voters know that when you vote November 2nd to not believe the negative attacks from Tom’s opponent. For those that would like to know more about Tom, please email to: foleyelection@ami.com. If you want to read something on Lew Evangelidis, please read InCity Times, www.incitytimesworcester.org

We appreciate your attention to this! Thank you!

Sheriff candidate Lew Evangelidis gets pissed at us! Oooooh!! We’re so scared!!

By Rosalie Tirella

File this under: The Creepy Lew Evangelidis, Part 2

This threat to InCity Times would come from a creepy political candidate (Worcester County Sheriff candidate Lew Evangelidis), a politician who is having his political minions write negative letters to area newspapers re: his political opponent, Tom Foley. Yup! Let’s have all my pals slime Foley! Quick! Quick! Quick! Let’s do it under the radar – the sliming – so I can still look clean!

So it came as no surprise to me when I heard that Evangelidis called someone else to tell me he was was planning to sue me over my writing in a recent InCity Times blog (see below) that Lew acted “coked out” when I met him to chat at a local coffee shop. During our mini-interview, Evangelidis was talking a mile a minute and acting super hepped up. Like he was: coked up.

Oh, cocaine! Lawyers made calls about me, then I was told Lew is a prosecutor … and he wanted the coked out reference out … OR ELSE!!!

My guy, who has seen his fair share of courtrooms, shook his head. “He’s trying to scare you. Don’t pull it.” (the phrase) Continue reading Sheriff candidate Lew Evangelidis gets pissed at us! Oooooh!! We’re so scared!!

Some thoughts on (possible) sheriff candidate Frank Beshai …

By Rosalie Tirella

It’s one of those weird wonders … Frank Beshai, a good guy AND ex-con in recovery, may be running for Sheriff of Worcester County – again. (We interviewed him in 2004 and endorsed him in his run for sheriff. Back then, we were newer at the game, and Beshai’s talk of seeing the Big House with an insider’s perspective, intrigued us.)

Maybe we have grown wiser … . Don’t get me wrong. I love “Heat of the Night” with Rod Steiger as the old timey sheriff sporting cool aviator glasses and crumby Southern-style hangups.

Frank Beshai would be more at home in “Heat of the Night” than in the Worcester County House of Correction. Beshai would make a great TV/movie sheriff.

But this is 2010 and we’d like to think of Worcester County as a fairly progressive place. A place where we need ideas, experience and … electability. Frank Beshai – during an Oct. 2010 InCity Times interview for his run for the District 3 City Councilor seat – seemed a little … out of it. Weird. A tad creepy. He was just, I don’t know, out to lunch … or out of ideas. Just pushing a turn-the-bums- (read: incumbents)-out ethos.

While it’s OK to be a protest candidate, it is not OK to seem ancient, exhausted, grasping for ideas to hang your brain on … . This is the Frank Beshai of 2010.

While it is nice to know Beshai turned his life around, a “reborn” guy does not make a great sheriff. Beshai should give up politics (he’s been trying to get elected to anything for years) and maybe start a rehab program for ex-offenders, with a Christian twist.

This is probably Frank’s destiny.

Pray on it, Frank.
