Lots of minority WSC candidates on the ballot yesterday – and voters came out for them! … A new Quinsig Village polling spot – the new Blackstone River Visitors Center/museum…

How ironic that ol’ incumbent – Tracy O’Connell Novick- got reelected to the Worcester School Committee yesterday (all the Irish surnames running for Worcester School Committe did), and the first phony sentences out of her mouth were:

The community will be the priority!!!…

And…Strong outsider campaigns run, but incumbency is a tough nut to crack!!!

OF COURSE IT IS, YOU NUT Tracy!!!! Who better to know than you? When you were on the Worcester School Committee last go around and then Worcester Mayor and School Committee head Joe O’Brien WAS PUSHING FOR DISTRICT REPRESENTATION ON THE WORCESTER SCHOOL COMMITTEE, you voted against it!!

TRACY O’Connell Novick, YOU VOTED AGAINST CRACKING THE INCUMBENCY NUT! All the school committee members at that time did! No one joined Joe O’Brien in making the School Committee more inclusive, more representative of the people of our city! Reflecting minorities, folks – children – from our working class and poorer neighborhoods. People who see up close: the child hunger, teen pregnancy, health challenges, domestic violence and abuse, the lack of resources … AND ALL THE GREAT STUFF … ALL THE POTENTIAL! Let’s make the Worcester School Committee mirror our Woo City Council: 5 district members and 6 at large members.

Tracy, you live on Olean Street – on the city’s West Side. An added perk: you also live at the nature nook – Cascades – so you LIVE RENT FREE COURTESY OF THE TAXPAYERS, IN THE CUTE HOUSE THERE! Now you can make almost $15,000+ a year as a member of the Worcester School Committee, courtesy of the Worcester taxpayer

Why would you give up some of that entitlement by pushing for District Representation on the school committee – even though you said incumbency is a tough nut!

Doing the right thing means you may be off the school committee next time – it means new city candidates, new city voices, Woo folks from under-represented Worcester neighborhoods and communities WILL HAVE A CHANCE … It means they will get elected to the school commityee. The numbers, as you know, are there.

Why is running in a district make it easier to get elected? Because people are running in their neighborhoods and surrounding neighborhoods – folks know them, and they know up close and personal the challenges/issues of their communities. AND running a district campaign DOESN’T COST AS MUCH MONEY as city wide because you are running in your DISTRICT – not ALL of Worcester. Fewer signs, flyers, letters, etc.

DR is a great way to bring minorities … working moms and dads … the working class and poor – NEW VOICES – into our public school conversation – making CHANGES, VOTING FOR REAL CHANGES in our Worcester Public Schools. Most likely these new voices will be THE FOLKS WITH KIDS OR GRANDKIDS IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

So stop giving cheap politician lip service to what you denied the city schools, and the voters, several years ago, Tracy O’Connell Novick! You help stop STRONG, OUTSIDER/MINORITY SCHOOL COMMITTEE CANDIDATES from serving on the Worcester School Committee!

*******

Inside my neighborhood’s visitor center/polling site – a history of the disenfranchised!! Working to/demanding they get their FAIR SHARE!

Twice Vice? No way for WP school committe member Tracy O’Connell Novick

By Rosalie Tirella

Re: Worcester Public Schools Committe “Vice Chair” Tracy O’Connell Novick: we’ve heard this from John Monfredo, fellow Worcester School Committee member: This will be the last time Novick is VICE CHAIRMAN of the Worcester Public Schools Committee.

Monfredo is head of the Worcester Public Schools Committee rules subcommittee, and he is working to make it a committee rule that after each municipal election, second-place vote getters get the vice chair of the Worcester School Committee – not people who do backroom deals with folks like Novick did. Monfredo told me he was not planning to vote for Novick getting the vice chair slot, but Mayor Joe Petty (the Chairman of the Worcester School Committee – like all Worcester mayors Petty heads the school committee) went to him and told him to do so, to make the WPSC seem cohesive and positive.

Monfredo told Petty he was againt Novick as Vice Chair because she had alientated so many minority parents of Worcester Public School students with her Dr. Boone witch-hunt. Novick tried to destroy Dr. Boone, Worcester’s first black female school superintendent. The minority community had had it with Novick. Monfredo told Petty if Novick became Vice Chair of the school committee, it would send the wrong message to so many city parents and kids.

Petty didn’t listen – and Novick doesn’t care who she offends as long as she gets all the free publicity that comes with comes with the Vice Chair slot. She gets to “speak for” the Worcester School Committee via the papers, TV, etc.

So now the City of Worcester must live with this mistake – a slap in the face to minority WPSchools students and their families. Remember, Worcester is a majority minority school district, meaning there are more minority kids than white kids in our public schools.

But, thanks to John Monfredo, the WPSC rules will soon be changed – he is having a meeting of his subcommittee soon – to make this Novick’s first and last stint as Vice Chair. The process will be fair – the vice chair slot will be awarded to the second highest vote getter – just like the way it’s done with the Worcester City Council. Top vote getter mayor, second top vote getter City Council vice-chair.

Tracy O’Connell Novick and Stephen S. Buchalter: misleading the voters

By Rosalie Tirella

At the candidate forum at Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church, held a few days ago, in Worcester’s innercity – 55 Illinois St. – two candidates blatantly lied to the voters.

School committee incumbent Tracy O’Connell Novick has made it her mantra to not renew the contract of Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Melinda Boone. Her criticism of Dr. Boone at school committee meeetings has bordered on racism. At the black church, where Novick (along with two other school committee incumbents Brian O’Connell and Dianna Biancheria) was specifically asked about her feelings about Dr. Boone.

From the T and G: “The first issue Mr. Perry raised was the future of School Superintendent Melinda J. Boone, whose initial three-year contract expires next year. Specifically, he addressed the issue to School Committee incumbents Dianna L. Biancheria, Brian A. O’Connell and Tracy O’Connell Novick … Mr. O’Connell said he would favor giving Ms. Boone a two-year contract extension, while Ms. Novick and Ms. Biancheria said the matter was an ongoing issue in School Committee executive session and not a public matter at this point.”

How insulting! Ol’ Dianna and Tracy have been nothing but threatening to NOT renew Dr. Boone’s contract – at school comittee meetings, at other candidate forums, etc. But they blatantly lied to the people at this inner-city black church – mostly minority folks.

Then the T & G reported that city council candidate Stephen S. Buchalter spoke in favor of LOWERING homeowners tax bills when he has gone on public record saying he will DEFINITELY NOTE VOTE FOR THE LOWEST RESIDENTIAL TAX RATE.

Stephen was lying to the people at this inner-ctiy forum too – the last folks who want their property taxes raised.

This is why people hate politicians.
